How to invite a caregiver to your family in Elly

Follow Elly’s caregiver invitation flow: open family settings, choose child access, create an invitation and help the invited adult join the right family.

In Elly, open Settings → Caregivers, use the add control, enter the caregiver’s name and select child access. Create the invitation and share it with that person. They join in Elly using the invitation code or QR flow. Some shared features require Elly Plus.

Check the family before you start

Open the household settings for the family you intend to share. Find Caregivers, which is separate from Partners and Children. Choose the role that matches the arrangement rather than inviting everyone as a partner for convenience. If you are joining an existing family, ask a family member for an invitation instead of creating another household as a workaround. The person creating the invitation needs the appropriate access in the app. Review any subscription message shown there before assuming shared features are available to every member.

Open the caregiver invitation form

Use the add control in Caregivers to open Invite a caregiver. Enter the intended caregiver’s name so the invitation is recognizable. The form shown below also includes Child access. Read that selection before creating the invitation, particularly if your family has more than one child. Creating an invitation is a setup step; it does not mean the other adult has already joined, agreed to a shift or accepted responsibility for a particular day. Keep those agreements in the family’s planning conversation and calendar.

Choose all children or selected children

Select All children when that fits the arrangement, or choose the individual children the caregiver needs to access. For example, a nanny helping with one child’s afternoons may have a different arrangement from a caregiver supporting the whole household. This is a product access choice, not a substitute for discussing responsibilities. Check it with the intended person before sharing the invitation. The separate child-access tutorial explains how to distinguish this selection from the permission to create or change plans after joining.

Create and share the invitation

Choose Create invitation, then use the generated invitation to share the joining details with the intended adult. Elly’s invitation card contains a code and QR code. Use the newly generated invitation from your family, not a screenshot from this website. A card is an invitation to join the app family; it is not a shift confirmation. If the person has not installed Elly, send them the app download link as well. Keep the invitation within the people involved in the care arrangement.

Help the caregiver complete the joining flow

The invited adult opens Elly and follows the join-family flow using the code or QR scanner. Sign-in and the membership check happen in the app. Our Have an invite? page can help open Elly with an entered code, but the website cannot grant family access or confirm that a code is valid. If the invitation no longer works, ask the family member managing invitations to check it and provide a current one. Avoid repeatedly creating new households or sharing account passwords to get around a failed invitation.

Verify the working arrangement after joining

Once the caregiver has joined, check the connected member in family settings and review planning access separately. Walk through the child selection, one care entry and the place where upcoming arrangements live. A useful first check is whether both adults can identify the same child and understand where a completed feed differs from a planned task. Agree how you will handle an open timer at handoff. The invitation has done its job when the right person is in the right family with the access needed for the agreed arrangement, not simply when the card has been sent.

Common questions

Can I create an invitation on this website?

No. Create and manage invitations inside Elly. The website’s invitation page only helps open the app.

Can the caregiver scan a QR code?

Elly’s join-family flow supports scanning an invitation QR code as well as entering a code.

Does sending an invitation assign a shift?

No. Joining a family and responding to a caregiver shift are separate steps.

What if the code does not work?

Check that you are using the current invitation from the correct family. Ask the family member managing invitations for a new one if needed.
